Dr. Toseef Azid

Director/Professor, Khurshid Ahamad Institute of Islamic Economics and Finance

Dr. Toseef Azid is director/professor of Khurshid Ahamad Institute of Islamic Economics and Finance. He served in Pakistan, UK, USA, Brunei and Saudi Arabia. He received Fulbright award in 2005 as “scholar in residence” where he worked on a research project on 'Economics of Middle Eastern Countries' and served as International Visiting Scholar, Economics Department, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA (2017). He holds PhD in Economics from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. His research focuses on technological change, development Economics, labor economics, Islamic economics and Islamic finance. His ten books as author/Editor are published by Internationally well reputed publishers: four by Routledge (Group of Taylor and Francis) UK, two by Emerald, UK, three by World Scientific Publishers, Singapore, and one by Springer nature, Singapore. His more than 100 papers are published in local and international journals and he also contributed in a number of conferences held in Pakistan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Indonesia, Canada, Australia, Iran and Turkey.

Dr. M. Mahmood Shah Khan has over 25 years of teaching, research, and corporate experience in Banking, Finance, and Economics. He was the founding Director of the Institute of Islamic Banking (2012–2016) and founding Editor-in-Chief of Islamic Banking and Finance Review (HEC “Y” category). He has supervised 50+ MS/PhD theses, launched multiple degree programs (BS, MS, PhD), and organized major global forums, conferences, and workshops in Islamic banking. Dr. Khan has also presented internationally, including at Harvard, MIT, Yale, UCLA, and other leading institutions.

Dr. Hasan Shakeel Shah is an Associate Professor in the Department of Islamic Thought & Civilization, UMT Lahore, where he also served as Chairperson (2022–2025) and earlier as Associate Director of the Institute of Islamic Banking. He was formerly Head of the Islamic Banking and Finance Department at the Islamic University of Maldives. Holding degrees from Al-Azhar University (Egypt), Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (Brunei), and a PhD from University of Brunei Darussalam, his expertise spans Sharī‘ah, Islamic Banking, Finance, and Arabic. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and convened several academic forums.

Dr. Talat Hussain is an Associate Professor at the Department of Islamic Thought & Civilization, UMT Lahore, with a Ph.D. in Islamic Finance (Fiqh al-Mu‘amalat) from IIUM, Malaysia. He has over 15 years of teaching experience at national and international institutions, supervised 40 MS and 7 PhD theses, and published 25+ papers in reputed journals. Former Editor-in-Chief of Islamic Banking and Finance Review (2017–2023), he has also organized five global forums on Islamic Economics, Finance, and Banking and presented widely as an invited speaker.

Dr. Afia Mushtaq is Assistant Professor at Department of Economics & Quantitative Methods, HSM , UMT, Lahore. She brings over two decades of academic excellence and research insight to the University of Management and Technology. With a Ph.D. in Islamic Banking and Finance and a strong foundation in Economics, she has been a valued member of the UMT faculty since 2008. Her areas of specialization include Islamic finance and sustainable economic development. Over the course of 23 years, her commitment to academic development is further reflected in her contributions to course development, curriculum improvement, and departmental quality assurance.
